The ISI SERIES ELASTOMERIC ISOLATORS consists of alternating layers of rubber and steel plate, having the rubber confined, glued together through a vulcanization process. This configuration allows resistance both in the horizontal direction (parallel to the rubber’s lying) and vertical to the layers.
These devices mainly work as bearings carrying great resistance against vertical actions. However, they possess little resistance in the horizontal direction whereas allowing small deformations in the plane for small forces.
These characteristics are coupled with a discrete dissipation capacity, with equivalent damping of 10 to 15 %.
To cover a wide range of horizontal equivalent stiffness, these isolators can be produced with 3 different rubber mix which differentiate from one another according to their shear modulus:
