Tuned mass dampers or TMD are devices applied to particularly flexible structures such as tall buildings or walkways to mitigate vibrations due to earthquakes, wind or other dynamic actions. The TMD is achieved by connecting to the main mass an additional mass by means of a system of elastic springs and viscous dampers.
